GARDEN ARTY 2009
Garden Arty 2009
Artistic creations with an outdoor twist are wanted for the Grosse Ile Alliance for the Arts’ latest endeavor.
“Garden-Arty,” a fund-raising event with a nature theme, will take place during IslandFest next Friday and June 6 at Macomb Commons, Macomb and Meridian Streets.
Artists, schools, organizations, businesses and individuals can create an object of indoor or outdoor garden art using any type of media. Selected art will be auctioned at a special reception next Friday.
Ideas for submissions are up to the creators, but could range from sculpture and metal to birdhouses and wind chimes.
“It’s open to anybody — artists, non-artists, kids and any community around the state,” alliance member Rena Perlick-Kloska said. “That’s kind of what the art alliance is about — making art available to anyone, even if you think you’re not an artist.”

“With Garden-Arty, we thought we’d reach out to more people with creative ideas for their gardens,” Perlick-Kloska said. “And there’s a place for it to go.”
A preview of the work is set for 5 p.m. next Friday, followed by the auction at 7 p.m. The remaining art will be available for sale during IslandFest.
Best of Show will earn $300, followed by $150 for first place, $100 for second and $75 for third.
Refreshments, hors d’oeuvres and music will be provided free, along with the opportunity to purchase a unique piece of garden art.
